My regular readers know that I live in a village south of the city of Vancouver, almost on the border to the state of Washington. The village is considered a sort of "bedroom community" because most people who live here commute to work in neighbouring cities like Richmond, Surrey, or Vancouver. Around the residential area lie lots of farmland, though, and it's a very enjoyable trek of about 5 minutes to drive out to see old barns, cattle, horses, goats, rural mailboxes standing like drunken soldiers at the side of the road and the coal trains as they sidle on down the track to Roberts Bank Port. Anyway, here are a few shots I thought I'd share with today from a couple of weeks ago on a brilliant sunny fall day just 5 minutes from my house, which is in the residential area.
It's all so quiet, peaceful and picturesque until suddenly looming out of the distance are a few monster houses! In the midst of this pastoral scene, these structures are ugly and to my eyes a blight on the landscape. I sure hope they don't eventually take over the entire area.

You live in a beautiful area. Its great to be able to have rural country side close to home. It makes for a perfect break away spot if the city becomes too much. As far as development goes. If they have already started I'm afraid they won't stop. Its happening all over here as well.
Darn those McMansions messing up a beautiful landscape. Your country side looks very similar to ours here in Massachusetts.
I will agree that the old barns and such are prettier than the new, giant houses. But my guess is that eventually the new will take over.
What I love about your photos is the lighting. The sun was so golden. Very beautiful.

Your area is much like Maple Ridge with its rural charm. But here also we are battling the sprawl of urbanization.
It's like looking at the past and the present. I love your images - my kind of world. :)
Sadly, those structures will take over the area eventually! People move away from the city to be out in the country, but all of their homes are eating up the pretty country side. Pretty soon there will be no room for the farmer!

What a sharp contrast. The beautiful country and the ugle development. What a monstrous house. Why would anyone need something so big?

Lovely quiet rural area, we have those too, untilbig town money moves in on a small allotment and pts up a brick temple to mammon.
I so often wish I won a big lottery, could go around offering these people a good price on condition they watch me blow the place up.
Progress is all very good and proper to a point, but not to turn quaint villages into monstrosities of dormitory suburbs.
