That's My World - English Bay

Sunday afternoon, Josie and I drove to downtown Vancouver and had lunch at the Boathouse facing English Bay. It's quite something to have a beach in the downtown area of a city and this beach has stunning views of freighters anchored out in the bay and of sailboats casually gliding over the still waters. At least on Sunday there was hardly any breeze. As you can see, we have palm trees in our "Lotusland" and, like most major cities, the hot dog vendors were out in full force because of the sunny and mild weather. As usual, click on the photos to enlarge.

As I scanned the surroundings, I noticed a condo with a tree growing out of its roof. It's bare now, but in other seasons, I imagine it would be a fantastic place to sit under its spreading branches while enjoying the seaside views.

Because there wasn't much of a breeze, not too many sailboats were out, but there were some diehards trying to prolong the season.

A few clouds rolled in, hiding the sun for a while, but I took this shot of several freighters moored out on the bay off the tip of Stanley Park beneath the vari-coloured sky.

The sun continued to attempt to shine through the clouds as it moved west towards the horizon. Today it has dawned clear again but colder. There was a touch of frost on the rooftops, but that doesn't matter much because the sky is a brilliant blue and there's no wind.

Those skies are just magnificent. I am cuirous why it is called English Bay, thats if you know. It can be so difficult finding out this sort of info.

You live in such a beautiful city. I enjoyed all of these shots but particularly like the tree growing out of the condo.

Your world is beautiful. Must be something to have all of that nearby. Like Klaus, I was struck by the tree on the building. It looks like it's a few years old, too!

I love the building "holding" a tree the best! I rarely manage to get to a city, so thank you for the visit to yours, it's lovely.

Leslie: What a neat post with a look at Vancouver. That trre on the roof was really something.

Leslie, thanks for the views of my absolute favourite city - I will get to live there in the Westend someday!

I remember taking photos of that tree on top of the building some 14 years ago when that tree was a mere sapling. Over the years I have watched it thrive and grow into a big tree. Local rumour has it that the penthouse apartment and tree belongs to Governator Schwarzenegger!

It looks very tropical with the palm trees! Lovely scenic Vancouver! We used to live in the Lower Mainland many years ago. Thanks for stopping by.

I like the green roof, with the tree growing on it. Vancouver is a great city to visit. Thanks for showing us it's also a great place to live.

Surprised to see the palm tree. I had the opportunity to travel to Vancouver back in the late 90's. I've always wanted to go back since then.

I was at English Bay once, but it was at night. Still a lovely time on the bay. This is my first time at That's My World and I am introducing my town, Powell River. I invite you to come see. -- Margy
