Do you see moose antlers?

The tide is waaaaay out!
When in San Gimignano (Italy) in the fall of 2006, I came upon these four older men sitting in a little alcove, visiting and reading the daily paper. With gestures and my limited Italian, I asked if I might take their photo and they very kindly nodded. As I lined up the shot, they simply went back to what they were doing, which was perfect! It's one of my favourite shots of my entire trip because it encompasses "real" life in Italy.

Happy photo hunting, everyone!
When I was in England, November of 2006, my friends took me for drives along a lot of back country roads. It was wonderful to see off-the-beaten-track views and the "real" England. On the way to one village, John stopped to consult his map and as he checked it over, I snapped this shot of a solitary tree. I liked how it looked so stark against the cool autumn sky and that there was just a touch of blue peeking through. I played with the original photo and decided to solarize it - I like how it looks not too far from the original but just has some subtle differences. Click to enlarge.
